I bought this foam roller to strech out my IT band- and it certainly does that. It is more stiff than the blue rollers that are commonly found at gyms and physical therapy. It seems to massage the tissue deeper than the softer rollers, but I actually found a bruise on my thigh from using this roller. I would not use this to massage soft tissue, but it works well for the thigh.
